Understanding money management is a skill everyone needs. Instead of learning from costly mistakes, youth benefit from an orientation of basic financial literacy. Early financial education helps youth avoid serious consequences such as spending
habits that result in poor credit rating and denial of credit for cars, homes and other major purchases.
Harvest America offers financial literacy education for youth ages 15 and above. Classes include professional speakers from the community plus interactive projects to reinforce learning.
Classes provide opportunities for practice and activities that reinforce topics. Topics include:
- Financial systems
- Making a spending plan
- Understanding and building credit
- Opening and managing checking and savings accounts
- Avoiding financial scams and traps
- Paying for higher education
- Investments; types, risk and reward
- Planning financial goals
